Staff employees begin accruing vacation time off immediately upon hire or on the date of promotion to an eligible position. Your vacation accrual is based on your length of service with Chipotle.

Maximum Yearly Vacation Accrual
Staff employees generally receive 40 hours of Sick Time at the beginning of every year. Some locations have mandated sick leave laws that are different than Chipotle’s standard policy. If you work in a location with mandated sick leave laws, you will accrue and may use Sick Time based on those laws.
Unused vacation time is not paid out upon termination of employment unless required by state regulations. Unused sick time is never paid out upon termination.
Vacation and Sick policies allow for time-off requests of up to 8 hours in a day* and 40 hours in a week** when combined with worked time. Time-off requests that are outside of policy will be adjusted accordingly.
*Vacation and Floating Holiday are capped at 8 hours a day, and sick time is capped at 8 hours a day unless mandated by your state.
**Apprentices and CA Managers are capped at 50 hours in a week when worked time is combined with PTO.
We’re happy to extend the following paid holidays to Staff employees.

Date Observed
In addition to paid holidays, we’re happy to provide Staff employees with one floating holiday each year. This floating paid day off can be taken at your discretion with manager approval.
For every ten years of continuous employment, AP-R & Staff employees are eligible for one eight-week sabbatical leave. To be eligible you must:
be employed as an AP-R & Staff employee for 10 years, or if you were promoted within the 10 years to one of these eligible positions, you must complete three years of uninterrupted employment as an AP-R and Staff employee before becoming eligible; and
have achieved a rating Meets Expectations or higher on your most recent performance review before the sabbatical period.
All sabbatical leave requests are subject to manager approval based on business needs. Approval is not guaranteed and will depend on factors such as operational coverage, timing, and workload. Employees should submit requests as early as possible to allow adequate time for planning.
The full eight weeks must be taken at one time and may not be taken intermittently.
Sabbaticals are paid at your regular rate of pay and will provide up to 40 hours of pay per week.
If you leave Chipotle within 6 months following the sabbatical, you will be required to pay back all eight weeks of the pay you received. Additionally, this eight-week sabbatical is not paid out at termination or job change to Crew, KL or SL position.
An additional eight-week sabbatical can be requested after each additional 10 years of continuous employment. However, additional sabbaticals cannot be taken within four years of any previously taken sabbatical. For example, if you take a sabbatical at your 17th year of employment, you would not be eligible for an additional sabbatical until your 21st year of employment.
While on sabbatical, employees should fully disconnect and refrain from engaging in work activities unless explicitly approved due to an urgent business need.
