Enrolling & Making Changes

There are only certain times that you will be able to enroll in or make changes to your benefits.

New Hire & Promotion Benefits Enrollment

Upon hire or promotion into a role with additional benefits eligibility, you’ll have 30 days from your date of hire/promotion to enroll in benefits. Medical, dental, and vision are effective the first of the month following 30 days after your date of hire/promotion.

Open Enrollment

All benefit-eligible employees have an opportunity to make changes to their benefits during Chipotle’s annual Open Enrollment. All changes made during Open Enrollment are effective for the following plan year, January 1 through December 31.

Additional Opportunities to Make Changes

In some cases, you may experience a significant life event that allows you an additional opportunity to make changes to your benefits including adding or removing dependents. These events, known as Life Events, requires supporting documentation and include:

  • Marriage or divorce
  • Birth or adoption of a new child (or a change in dependent eligibility)
  • Loss or change of insurance coverage (such as due to spouse’s employment or a dependent turning age 26)
  • Change in residence that affects access to network providers
  • Change in eligibility for Medicare or Medicaid
  • Court order requiring coverage for your child

For most Life Events (except for Birth and Adoption), you’ll have 30 days from the date of the event to make changes to your coverage, and those changes will be effective the first of the month following the event.

If you experience a Birth or Adoption Life Event, you’ll have 60 days from the date of the event to make changes, and these changes will be effective the date of Birth/Adoption.

Please note: If you do not make changes during the timeframes described above, you will not be able to make changes to your benefits until the following annual Open Enrollment or unless you experience another Life Event.

When Coverage ends

Medical, pharmacy, dental, and vision coverage ends for you and your dependents at the end of the month in which your employment terminates or you otherwise become ineligible for benefits.
